The Medway Towns still has the old Chatham Dockyard which is now a World Heritage Site and is open to the public for various  events through the year. My wife and I went to the first Armed Forces Day, needless to say it had a good backing from the public and the various services which made it a great day for everybody.

I first came to the Medway Towns in 1972/73 after being posted to Gordon Barracks in Gillingham another part of the Medway Towns. The Medway Towns are made up of Gillingham, Chatham, Rochester and Strood and the area has had a great navel history as the river Medway has always been an important part of the river to keep the naval fleet of the time in a safe anchorage and has been so until Chatham dockyard was closed by our leaders in government. A sad time for all in the towns as when the dockyard closed a lot of jobs went from the local area that served the economics of the Medway Towns.
